Lieutenant Nikolay Smirnov got to the front when he was eighteen-years-old young men in 1943, immediately after the tank school. He commanded a platoon. He fought on his way through Ukraine and Belarus. He met victory at Konigsberg. After the war he continued to serve in tank units. Uzbekistan became his homeland. He served in a military unit near Samarkand, then in the system of civil defense.
