UZBEK CULTURAL POTENTIAL PRESENTED
AT THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT

Presentation of cultural potential of Uzbekistan was held at European parliament in Brussels on 30 May, 2006. MEPs, representatives of the Council of European Union, EU Commission, politicians, academics, cultural circles, members of diplomatic corps, international organizations accredited in Brussels attended the event.
Former minister of culture and justice of France, currently the member of European Parliament Jacque Tubon said at the opening ceremony of presentation that the development of dialog among civilizations and cultures was getting more important and that learning the rich culture of Uzbekistan would allow deepen the mutual understanding and beneficial cooperation between Europeans and Uzbekistan.
The Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Belgium and the head of Uzbek mission to the EU Mr. Vladimir Norov spoke about the Uzbek government’s policy in preserving and developing the spiritual and cultural heritage of Uzbek nation.
“Assalom, Quyosh” dancing group from Tashkent presented its show at the event. The young dancers’ performance embodied the richness and fascination of Uzbek dances.
Secretary General of Secretariat of Energy Charter (SEC) Andre Mernier said in his interview to the Information Agency “Jahon” that the “Uzbek evening” at the European Parliament was a success. He added that it could serve as a stimulus for Europeans to travel to Uzbekistan and discover the beauty of its historical cities such as Bukhara, Khiva, Samarkand, and Tashkent.
