Information on the Round Table “Gender Equality in Uzbekistan” in the European Parliament

The Round Table “Gender Equality in Uzbekistan” with the participation of the Uzbek delegation headed by Deputy Prime-minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan Mrs. Svetlana Inamova took place in the European Parliament in Brussels on 4 December, 2006. MEPs, representatives of the Council of European Union, politicians, academics, cultural circles, international organizations accredited in Brussels attended the event.
The Round Table was organized in close cooperation with MEP Mrs. Elisabeth Jeggle and the Embassy of the Republic of Uzbekistan to the Kingdom of Belgium.
Main aim of the Round Table, was to inform participants about Policy of Uzbekistan to ensure Gender Equality and role of women in political, economic and social life.

Mr. F.Otakhanov - Deputy of State Counsellor of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, spoke about the Role of Political Parties and Democratisation of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
In the framework of the Round Table “Gender Equality in Uzbekistan” the role of women in political, economic and social life, including in the legislature of the country, measures on protection of the rights and freedom of women, democratization processes in Uzbekistan were discussed.
During the Round Table the members of the Uzbek delegation answered to the questions of the MEP and other participants.
At the end of the Round Table participants stressed that this meeting be came very useful for establishing contacts and meeting mutual understanding between different cultures and nations.
